There is more about this group on the
SARC page but we included it in this list of residency projects to mark a shift in our approach to what resident artist means. We want SARC to grow the habit of art/s happening at x-church. Exhibitions are good but a lot of what happens in the building is closer to production than exhibition. Artists like to experiment at x-church and true experimentation means lots of things going wrong (whatever that is). We don't yet know how SARC will find a public face but forming the group has stimulated a lot of collaborative exchange.
An event with working title BreXit is being planned for summer 2017 and there are also a number of smaller projects floating about. Fenia and Daz both made new work for Slumgothic Antisocial Dancing and also put together the amazing 24hr Cinema (100+ films by 100+ artists from 30+ countries) for Fesival x-24 2016. Jo has performed with our teenage project on many Thursday evenings. Fenia, Jo and Bleeding Tooth are intending to make something together. SARC can do a lot with a little but we intend to find significant resources for it in 2017. The underlying challenge for SARC is to interogate what being a Slumgothic resident artist means and could mean.
